In every biometric identification system, the user must “enroll” in the system. This usually means presenting the biometric characteristic to the system’s enrollment station (eye, finger, hand etc.) with the help of a system administrator.
The system then records and stores the biometric information in a database for later comparisons. These systems are generally used in conjunction with other security devices such as card readers or keypads. When a user requires entry into a space protected by a biometric identification device, they present an authorized access card (or press the correct code on a keypad) to the device controlling the door.
The system uses the card information to recall the stored biometric data. The user then presents their biometric data to the system’s biometric reader and it is compared to the information stored in the database. If there is a match, access is granted.
