Intrusion detection devices are designed to detect an unauthorized opening in a protected perimeter or the presence of an individual inside a protected space.
Perimeter detection devices are also known as Door Status Switches or Alarm Contacts. These devices are attached to the barrier of an opening (a door or window for example) and signal an alarm when the barrier is opened.
The monitoring systems are programmed to recognize legitimate opening times (through a variety of means) and announce an alarm to the system operator if a door is opened outside the normal access times or conditions.
Space protection devices are generally located inside a protected area and work by sensing heat or motion that results when someone enters a room.
The device signals the alarm system that a presence has been detected and like perimeter protection, the alarm monitoring system has been programmed to recognize legitimate times that a person may enter that area.
When these conditions are violated, the alarm system announces an alarm to the system operator.
