Intercom system devices are usually designed to allow someone at one location to signal another person remotely. In some cases, the intercom system allows communications with a single point, but there are also systems that work through telephone lines to reach multiple users. For example, in an industrial plant there may be an intercom device at a remote gate to request entry to the plant grounds. These devices are connected to a central security station that also has an access control system that can remotely unlock a gate or door.
In other applications, the intercom system is connected to an ordinary telephone line or PBX telephone line with automatic dialers embedded in the circuitry. The user locates a “code” on the electronic directory of the intercom system, keys in the appropriate code, and that code is linked to a telephone number that is dialed by the automatic dialer. A qualified security professional can help you decide which type of system is right for your application.
