HOW DOES PROXIMITY SENSORS WORK?

Proximity cards use a special electronic chip embedded between the layers of the identification card. This chip is connected to a mini-antenna laid in a spiral pattern also between the plastic layers of the card. The chip and antenna are ultra thin making the card nearly the same thickness as a standard credit card.

ULTRA THIN ACCESS CARDS

The proximity card has no internal power giving it a long useful life. It is powered by receiving energy from the proximity card reader. Proximity card readers generate a constant field of energy. When the proximity card is placed within the energy field surrounding a reader, the chip is energized and begins to emit pulse signals. These pulses carry a unique code that identifies the card. If permission is granted, the system transitions a relay that controls the lock holding the door to the protected space closed.

HIGHLY CONVENIENT AND AESTHETICALLY SUBTLE

Proximity card / reader systems are most useful in applications that require high cardholder convenience or if the location of the reader is cosmetically sensitive. A proximity reader may be installed inside a wall or behind a protective covering because the card does not have to come in contact with the reader. This opens substantial opportunities for creative design in reader installation.
