Generally, combined video intercom systems are used in residential applications. They are interconnected by direct wiring to allow continuous talk paths and transmission of video images. A video intercom system allows someone at a remote location to signal then talk to another person while their image is transmitted to the other person.
For example, in an apartment building the intercom system is connected to an ordinary telephone line and has automatic dialers embedded in the circuitry.
The user locates the resident code on the electronic directory of the intercom system, keys in that code the system automatically dials a telephone number associated with resident’s home telephone number.
The resident can then enter a code on their home telephone number that unlocks the door.
This type of system provides a convenient effective way to secure a residential building and afford residents a way to permit visitor access without having to walk to the main entry door.
